TEST 1

Submitting your Answers:  If the result is a decimal number use two decimal places after the decimal

point, i.e. : 0.01 or 3.12 and include the zero before the decimal point if there is one.

If the result is in thousands please include the comma "," such as in 10,000.

If the result is a whole number just include the whole number, i.e. 5 or 32 or 540 or 3,400 with no decimal.

Leave no blank spaces before or after the answer or it will be read incorrectly!

1.

Problem 1 a) and b) refers to the circuit on the right.

Initially we turn the switch S on so that the circuit is

    connected.

    a)  If R =50 Ohms and the battery has a potential

of  V = 5 Volts, what is the current I equal to?

    b) If I = 1 A (1 Amp) and the potential of the battery

is still 5 Volts, what is the value for R?

 Answer to a): I = Amps.
 Answer to b): R = Ohms.

2.    If the band's colors of 5 different resistors are as follows, specify the resistor values:

 a) R1: Red Black Brown; R1 Value: Ohms.
 b) R2: Yellow Red Black; R2 Value: Ohms.
 c) R3: Green Orange Red; R3 Value: Ohms.
 d) R4: Blue Violet Orange; R4 Value: Ohms.
 e) R5: White Gray Brown; R5 Value: Ohms.

3.    Convert the following Current values from Amps(A) to milliamps(mA) and the resistor values

        from Ohms to Kilo-Ohms.

a) 0.1 A = mA.
b) 12 A = mA.
c) 0.05 A = mA.
d) 3 A = mA.
e) 10 Ohms = kOhms.
f) 520 Ohms = kOhms.
g) 7500 Ohms = kOhms.
h) 100 Ohms = kOhms.

4. The 4th Band of a resistor indicates a percentage of tolerance.

a)If the 4th band color is silver, the tolerance is +/- %.
b)If the 4ht band color is gold the tolerance is +/- %.
