Can Science Prove God's Existence?

After a sabbatical year, we come back with a most profound question, easily a matter of lengthy analysis. In this editorial, we will just explore a few considerations.

First of all, the nature of science is to study the physical and measurable reality. Therefore, science doesn't concern itself with things that transcend this reality, and God is a transcendent infinite being, whose essence is beyond any measurable scientific analysis. However, the creator's nature can be perceived from creation itself. Just as a work of art conveys information about the artist, the world around us reveals God's features. Consider, for instance, how an astronomer may confirm God's infinite being by the study of an ever-expanding universe; or in the microscopic realm, how a particle physicist continues to find smaller and smaller particles which keep subdividing indefinitely, confirming again God's infinity.

As another example consider the advances that human biology has made through history. We now know of the complexities of the human body and the wonders of its different systems, such as the reproductive or immune ones. The amazing structure of the DNA shows that only God could possibly create something so outstandingly complex, yet perfect.

Another field of study that shows similar proof is materials science. The beautiful arrangement of molecules, atoms and the synthesis of all the available structures could only come from the mind of the Creator.

The list of examples is never-ending, and all of them validate not only the existence of a creator, but also the Creator's wisdom and love in all the different aspects of the universe's beauty. The initial question posed leads us to another open-ended question. Are we willing to be consequent to our responsibilities as citizens of this world, so as to preserve the beauty and majesty of our heritage?
